We spent two nights at the Piper’s Flat Apartment at Awatuna Homestead. Arriving was already a pleasure, surrounded by beautiful gardens the house gives an amazing appearance. Our two kids (3 & 6 yrs) loved the two dogs Molly and Abbey. Linley and Paul were absolutely fantastic hosts, very friendly and supportive.
The apartment was very clean, well equipped, cosy.
You need a car to reach Hokitika (approx. 10 min.) or Greymouth (20 min.) where you’ll find plenty of restaurants, supermarkets,…
We’d definitely want to come back!

This homestead, while secluded off the street and north of Hakitika, really made me regret that this was a last minute overnight find during a road trip. The couple and their family made me feel at home; morning breakfast was healthy and tasty; their grounds are magical; and the ease at which we conversed was everything that one wishes for when away from home and family as a solo traveller. As I said, my only regret was that it wasn’t for a longer stay; but I’ll put that wish out there to come true one day. If you want an idyllic, relaxed and serene stay…this is for you!
